Volunteers Needed for District Task Force

Volunteers needed for 24-Credit Graduation Requirement Task Force

Seattle Public Schools is seeking parent, staff and student volunteers to serve on a 24-Credit Graduation Requirement Task Force that would address how the district can implement the state’s increasing credit requirements for graduation. The task force will be asked to research and analyze options, and then make a recommendation regarding high school schedules, graduation policy and credit-hour requirements.

The district received a waiver to delay the new requirement in Seattle Public Schools because of the challenges of fitting 24-credits into current high school schedules. Community members, staff or students interested in serving on the task force should send an email expressing interest by Feb. 20, 2015, to Erin Stoen, Director of College & Career Readiness, at emstoen@seattleschools.org.

Volunteers – We NEED You!

volunteer image

We have started planning our annual auction!  We need volunteers for roles big and small.  Email auction@schmitzparkpta.org if you can help.

We still need recess/lunch monitors, a Spirit Wear Co-chair and a few classes still need room parents – sign up here. All teachers have a room parent guide and room parents should be coordinating with teachers to find out classroom needs.  Our first celebration is approaching quickly!

A friendly reminder to all volunteers:  You must submit a background check, a copy of your driver’s license, complete the district sexual harassment training online and then print the certificate to provide to the school.   You will need to sign in at the front desk as a visitor until all items have been completed. Email Athena Frederick, volunteer coordinator, if you can help or have questions.

Seeking Parent Volunteers

With school in full swing, we are still in need of volunteers to assist with some positions at school and to lend a hand with two of our biggest fundraisers – the Move-a-Thon and Auction.

School Clean Up & PTA Packet Stuffing

The first day of school is near and we are already off to a good start!  Last week’s 4th Grade Movie Night was attended by 268 children and parents and raised nearly $1,300 for this year’s Islandwood!  Thanks to all who came!

keep calm

And just a reminder that we are in the home stretch of getting the new kindergarten playground installed this week and would love some help beautifying the area for the first day of school.  Please join us this Wednesday, August 27th from 4-6pm and 6-8pm for a clean up party.  Please bring gardening tools and garbage bags to assist in the clean up efforts.

Also coinciding with the clean up party, the PTA Board would love assistance stuffing information packets for this year’s school year.  We’ve been granted permission to post the packet materials online via the blog (will be available the first week of school) but still need to stuff a limited number of packets for families that will need hard copies.   Please join us at the entrance to the school near the flag pole if you can lend a hand from 6-8pm.

Questions please contact Lorie Bennett at fundraising@schmitzparkpta.org or Alyse Hufford at secretary@schmitzparkpta.org.
