First PTA General Meeting – October 16th

We will be holding our first PTA General Meeting of the 2014/2015 school year on Thursday, October 16 at 6:30pm in the cafeteria.  We have a crucial vote on the 2014/2015 budget that requires members to vote how money will get spent this school year. The Seattle App Academy will also provide a presentation of their new after school programs and how your children can get involved in robotics, engineering, and computer programming. Free Childcare is available to all Schmitz Park school age children in the gym.

Schmitzville Carnival a HUGE Success!

Thanks to all who came out to celebrate the 2nd annual Schmitzville Carnival this past Friday night!  It was a successful evening for all – we got new PTA members signed up, 4th graders selling Schmitz Park t-shirts and water bottles to help raise funds for Islandwood, yummy food prepared by fabulous food trucks, carnival games, and much more!  A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Jodi Bennett, Chair for the Schmitzville Carnival and all the parent and student volunteers who made the event a great success.  Thank you!!!

Never miss a chance to give  your input on issues that impact our children. Take the 2014 Legislative Priorities Issue Survey – The Washington State PTA – made up of every local PTA and PTSA in the state – was established as an advocacy organization to make PTA a powerful voice for children; a relevant resource for families, schools and communities; and an advocate for the well-being and education of all children. Please take 5 minutes to rate the issues and select the five you believe should be our top 5. After School Enrichment Program Begins September 29th!

We hope you’ll join us this Fall Session for the Schmitz Park After School Program, sponsored by the PTA.  Classes will begin the week of September 29 and we have some exciting new offerings along with the return of some old favorites.  Registration forms were emailed on Friday, September 12.  The deadline to register is 3:15 pm on Friday, September 19th.  Please bring forms to the office.  Registrations will be processed over the weekend and you should receive email confirmations of enrollment by Tuesday, September 23rd.   Enrichment registration -Fall 2014

Please note, classes will be available to 1st-5th graders only to allow kindergarteners to acclimate to their new schedule.  Winter quarter classes will be open to kindergarteners.

*As always, please read the registration forms carefully: some classes are open to specific grades only, some classes have different end times.  

*Classes with a stated maximum limit will be determined by lottery from the registrations submitted before the deadline.  Registrations received after the due date will be processed on a first come/first served basis as space allows.

With the first day of school under our belts, it’s time to start thinking about our 2nd annual Schmitzville Carnival!  This is a fun event for the whole family to enjoy rides, carnival games, and enjoy food from one of the five food trucks!  Come join the fun, bring the kids, and while you are there, sign up to be a member of the PTA.  Board members will be on hand to answer questions and membership is only $10/adult family member.

Thanks to all who came out for the Schmitz Park annual Flag Ceremony and PTA Coffee Meet and Greet!  We’re off to a successful year and looking forward to all the great events and happenings planned for 2014/2015 including:

– Schmitzville Carnival

– Curriculum Night

– Move-a-Thon

– 2015 Auction

School Clean Up Party – Moved to August 27th

Please note we WILL NOT have our school clean up party on August 21-23rd.  We have tentatively scheduled the school clean up day(s) to Wednesday, August 27th and will focus our efforts on beautifying the courtyard and kindergarten playground areas. We anticipate having the new kindergarten playground installed in the coming week and need to direct our clean up efforts to the back of the school.

We are also working on having the kick ball areas painted with new lines and would love some assistance with beautifying the black top.  Please look for a sign up genius in the coming days to sign up for a shift to help out.
