Immediately following the annual Flag Ceremony in the school cafeteria (approximately just after 9 AM).  The PTA will provide free coffee (thank you Jeff Chapman for the Starbucks donation) and be there to answer your questions on how you can join the PTA and get involved at the school. INTERESTED IN BEING A RECESS MONITOR? This coming school year, we are expanding our use of hourly recess monitors.  These monitors will work 10 to 15 hours per week, and the rate is $10.50/hr.  If you are interested in being considered for one of these positions, please contact Ms. Minkin at llminkin@seattleschools.org ASAP. We want to welcome new Kindergarten families to Schmitz Park with a dinner and s’mores at Camp Long!  Cohort parents will cook up pulled pork sliders on their smokers and organize all the fixins’ for families to enjoy.  The Kindergarten Cohort team will also take care of the s’mores supplies and camp fire as well. Please just bring a few dollars to help cover the cost of food and your own roasting stick for the marshmallows.

The first day of school is near and we are already off to a good start!  Last week’s 4th Grade Movie Night was attended by 268 children and parents and raised nearly $1,300 for this year’s Islandwood!  Thanks to all who came! And just a reminder that we are in the home stretch of getting the new kindergarten playground installed this week and would love some help beautifying the area for the first day of school.

  Please note we WILL NOT have our school clean up party on August 21-23rd.  We have tentatively scheduled the school clean up day(s) to Wednesday, August 27th and will focus our efforts on beautifying the courtyard and kindergarten playground areas. The weather looks great for tomorrow night’s showing of Rio 2 at school!  Come mingle with friends and help us raise funds for this year’s 4th Grade Islandwood trip.  Concessions will be available for sale including pizza from Papa John’s, popcorn, and drinks.  Please bring your own chair(s) and/or blankets.  Doors open at 6:30pm and the show will begin at around 8:30pm.

Sorry for the short notice but due to weather and the possibility for increased thunder showers this evening, we have to cancel tonight’s movie showing of Rio 2.  Movie night has been rescheduled for NEXT TUESDAY, AUGUST 19TH at 6:30pm. “Rio 2”  kicks off our outdoor movie nights on Tuesday, August 12. We hope you can join us and don’t forget to bring blankets and chairs!
