RULER—The Anchors of Emotional Intelligence

Introduced at the PTA meeting on 9/22, Genesee Hill is participating in the RULER program this year. This program, from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, is designed to enhance social-emotional literacy in staff, students and their families. Classes have already begun working on creating their charters, which is the first step. Back by popular demand, we have just added two days of Wilderness Awareness classes.  The slightly shortened session will run from from Monday, October 3 – Wednesday, December 7, 2016.  Classes will be offered Mondays for 3rd-5th grade (9 classes) – $150/session and Wednesdays for 1st – 5th grade (7 classes) – $115/session. Registration is now open for Early Dismissal Mandala Coloring Camp to be held on Wednesday, September 28, from 12:15 PM – 2:15 PM. We are pleased to announce that we have enough dedicated staff (and interest) to offer Afternoon Study Club for the rest of the school year, including on early dismissal days and gap weeks between enrichment sessions. Registrations for the Fall session of Study Club (September 26 – December 16, 2016) will be accepted here starting on Tuesday, September 20th at 7:00 PM, and will remain open until the session starts or all spots are filled.

Our annual Genesee Hill-ville Carnival will be held on Friday, September 16th from 5:30pm-8:00pm. This annual event is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends, meet new ones and rejoice in our community being back together at school. UPDATE: Walking School Bus Program

The Genesee Hill Walking School Bus program is off to a robust start! Over the summer we were able to coordinate eight (8) routes to serve the school’s new walking area. Class assignment lists have been posted. Swing by the main entrance of the school to find out what classroom your student is in! For the first day of school, remember: Grades K & 1 are on the first floor Grades 2 & 5 are on the second floor Grades 3 & 4 are on the third floor
This year, classes will be dismissed at 2:05pm, 40 minutes earlier than last year. To serve families who need a later pick-up time after school, we are considering offering an Afternoon Study Club during the first two weeks of school – just until Enrichment classes begin on September 26. If there is enough demand, the Study Club would continue year round. We have tentative staff available for this, and now need to know the interest. Study
