The start of the school year has arrived and so has our September newsletter. We’re kicking things off with a note from our co-presidents, fall events, and some useful news. Here are some highlights:

“This year, we’re planning some great in-person events that we hope fosters strong connection to the school and to each other. The first is a Welcome Back to School potluck on Friday, September 30th. It will be a great way to kick off the school year. Look for more information next week.”

The Genesee Hill Auction is Back!!

Auction, Fund Raising

This year we are offering our first ever hybrid auction event! This auction will be truly unique, as all of the live auction items will be available to both those who are in-person and remote. Also, the silent auction will be held online so anyone can participate. In-person tickets are limited, so are likely to sell out quickly! Get all the details below to be ready for tickets sales on Tuesday:

Auction theme: Seattle Glam…Come as you are

When: Saturday, March 12, 2022 6:00-9:30 pm

Where: Brockey Center at South Seattle College and Online

How: Ticket sales will begin on Tuesday, February 15th at 7 pm, via this link. 

Ticket prices:

In-Person: $85/person, $170/couple

Remote: We are asking each virtual participant to make a $25 suggested donation to help offset the cost of the broadcasting and software.

How do you participate?

In-Person: 

  • We will be selling tickets up to 50% of the venue capacity (around 100 tickets available), 6 people per table. You can purchase 6 tickets together to reserve a whole table or individual/couple tickets to be placed at random.
  • There will be heavy appetizers and a Dessert Dash with no formal dinner.
  • The dessert dash is one of the highlights of the auction! If you are inspired to donate a purchased or homemade sweet treat to contribute to our excellent spread, we invite you to sign up here!
  • Proof of vaccination is required for all guests. Boosters and testing within 72 hours are strongly encouraged. Participants will need to upload a copy of their vaccination card in advance.
  • Masks requirements will follow state regulations.
  • Color-coded wristbands will be provided to indicate interaction comfort level.
  • The silent auction will be done online, prior to the event. A small amount of silent auction items may be held for the event and will still be available online as well.
  • Live auction will be held as normal with remote guests able to participate online.
  • Sadly there will be no dancing due to Covid restrictions, but we’ll have plenty of time to mingle.
  • And last, but not least, come ready to support Genesee Hill with a fun evening of food, drinks and bidding! 

Remote:

  • Organize a watch party with your friends and family to tune in to the live broadcast and auction together, or participate on your own.
  • The silent auction will be done online, prior to the event. A small amount of silent auction items may be held for the event and will still be available online as well.
  • Live auction will be held in real time with remote participants bidding through app or website.
  • If you purchase a virtual participant ticket, you will receive an invitation on 3/12 with a link to join the event. Dress up and make it a fun evening your own way!

Silent Auction:

  • The silent auction will be held online, and anyone is welcome to participate in it, regardless of attendance at the auction.
  • The silent auction will go live on March 5.
  • To participate in the silent auction, register your information here. Everyone who has registered will receive an invite to participate in the silent auction.
  • This is the first year the silent auction items will be 100% online, so make sure to tell your friends and family about it since folks can participate from anywhere.

Start talking to your Genesee Hill friends about forming tables for the in-person event or plan a watch party with your pod to enjoy remotely. Either way, get excited to support our amazing school! The auction may look different this year, but it will still have the fun, exciting auction items, and community building that we all love!

WA State PTA Advocacy Focus Week

Legislative & Advocacy

Would you like to advocate for a better education for kids across our state? The best time to do this in 2022 is coming up this month!


The Washington State legislative session is opening in Olympia and to advocate for the Top Legislative Priorities Washington State PTAs (like ours!) voted in, we will be having Washington State PTA Advocacy Focus Day on January 17 and Advocacy Focus Week from January 17 to 21. During these sessions, advocates will have an opportunity to explain why these priorities matter to them and their PTAs. We want legislators who represent all parts of Washington to hear our voices, data, and stories about why these priorities are so critical. This will ensure that we can have the greatest impact on state legislation that affects Washington schools.   


To take advantage of the upcoming awesome opportunities to advocate, this is what you can do.


1. Fill out the Focus Day Interest Google Form In this form you will sign up to receive alerts about who to send messages to during Focus Week and also notifications about virtual meetings you can join. You do not need to be a PTA Board member to sign up. We are District 34 and our Legislators are Sen. Joe Nguyen, Rep. Eileen Cody, and Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon. All Democrats.


2. To stay informed about this upcoming session, subscribe to the Focus on Advocacy newsletter and sign up for WSPTA Action Alerts. To sign up for the Focus on Advocacy newsletter, scroll to the bottom of any WSPTA newsletter you receive, and click on subscriptions, or email support@wastatepta.org. WSPTA also has Focus on Advocacy Day/Week resources, including tips on how to meet with legislators.

Dine Out for Genesee Hill at Lady Jaye on Sunday January 23, 2:00 to 7:30 pm

Events, Fund Raising, Restaurant of the Month

Our January Dine-Out event will feature Lady Jaye in the Alaska Junction on Sunday January 23, from 2pm to 7:30pm (the general store opens at 10am). 20% of all sales on this day will go to Genesee Hill, including takeout orders, dine in, gift cards, drinks and the Lady Jaye special Take and Bake. Lady Jaye makes everything super easy with their excellent online ordering system.

Would you like to dine in? Make sure to book your spot early. There is a heated patio if you don’t feel like going inside. The capacity is limited and Lady Jaye does have to turn people away. Click here to reserve a table and here to see the menu and order some of their delicious items!

Dine-Out details:

  • When: January 23, 2–7:30pm. Includes walk-ins and pickups. Online ordering/reservations strongly recommended.
  • Tables can be reserved here.
  • 40 Take and Bake meals feeding up to 4 people will be available for pick-up for $50 each. Order meals here until January 21. There are two options:
  1. Dry Aged Beef & Tomato Ragu Lasagna with Ricotta Cheese, Parmesan Cheese
  2. Garlic Veggie & Tomato Ragu Lasagna with Ricotta Cheese, Parmesan Cheese
  • Try their one of a kind, specially made, Genesee Hill special to-go cocktail or one of Lady Jaye’s other awesome to-go cocktails with your take-out order.
  • The General Store opens at 10am, offering tasty items for your kitchen such as wagyu beef, local prime beef & pork, house rubs, and meat accoutrements. Stop by while you are shopping at the Alaska Junction Farmer’s Market.
  • Gift cards can be purchased that day with 20% going to the school.
