PLEA TO SPS & SEA: GET BACK TO THE TABLE TO GET STUDENTS BACK TO SCHOOL

PastedGraphic-1Our goal as parents is to support our schools and have students back in class to start the 2015-2016 school year. Only by SPS and SEA reaching an agreement can that occur and it cannot happen if SPS and SEA will not negotiate. The story from each side is different than the other, but the fact remains only those with the knowledge and authority to negotiate a resolution can get our students back to school. We teach our children to use their words, and we now make the plea to both sides to use their words and resume talks. Set aside tactics, set aside hyperbole. Don’t set aside students. We ask, Superintendent Dr. Nyland superintendent@seattleschools.org and Seattle Education Association President Jonathan Knapp jknapp@washingtonea.org – please get back to the table and get our students back to school.

FOX FAMILY MAKES OFFICIAL VISIT TO NAMESAKE

VSchmitz1_croppedVicki Schmitz-Block welcomes the Schmitz Park Foxes into her home and shares lesson on her VSchmitz2ancestors rich history as West Seattle Pioneers. Joining the garden party are her grandchildren, Gunnar and Ilse, daughter-in-law Mary and son Dietrich. The Schmitz Family has made invaluable contributions to our school – from the land our school stands on to attendance at the 2015 Auction. Our school community is very grateful to have such a deep connection to the Schmitz Family. Our little foxes felt quite at home!

YOU’VE BEEN OUTFOXED! YOU’VE BEEN OUTFOXED!

OF_CollageEVERYBODY’S BEING OUTFOXED!

Jackson (Grade 2) & Josie (Grade 1) Ambrose, Enzo Wonder (Grade 2), and the High Bidders for the 2015 Auction Gourmet BBQ (O’Claires, Hammerstad’s, Wonder’s and Carl’s) were all recently out-foxed by the clever clan from Schmitz Park.

With the first day of school approaching quickly (whoot-whoot) the Fox-capade is picking up speed this week visiting a favorite Schmitz Park destination. Post your student’s guess on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/pages/Schmitz-Park-Elementary-School!

What does the fox say?

0807151808aMuchas Gracias to Eric & Pam Linxweiler for throwing a fiesta not even the risk of capture could keep the Fox Family away from. As previously reported, the Foxes sought out a meal last Friday evening ultimately joining the Linxweiler’s and guests (aka winning bidders) at the 2015 Auction’s Mexican Feast. Members of the PTA Board met informally yesterday to try to determine if the frequency of habitations was on the decline. It was conclusive that this is only the beginning of what will prove to be a Schmitz Blitz of Out-Foxing.

OUT FOXED UPDATE…

OF_HuffordsThe Schmitz Park Fox Family was spotted 3 blocks west today inhabiting Alyse & Ryan Hufford’s yard. While the Hufford’s state they saw or heard nothing (that’s why it’s called being Out Foxed), it is presumed the foxes were on the move at some point late Wednesday night when they decided to occupy Kian & Calvin’s front lawn. “I want to keep one!” Calvin Hufford, incoming Schmitz Park 2nd grader, stated upon finding the skulk of furry friends. Speculation leads that since both Turcotte and Hufford are former PTA Board Members and actively engaged in the school it may mean that the Fox Family is seeking out familiar surroundings. However, this connection may be sheer coincidence. An anonymous tip received at press time revealed that the Foxes are looking for a meal with one fox being overheard saying to the pack, “Anyone else feel like Mexican?” Watch here for updates on where they may be headed.

BREAKING NEWS – Turcotte’s “Out Foxed”…

Turcottes A family of Schmitz Park Foxes ventured out of the reserve early Tuesday morning  in search of expanding their habitat. The Foxes received a tip that former PTA  President Joe Turcotte and First Lady Anita Lavine are strong advocates of the SP  PTA mission to provide little Foxes opportunities to grow, learn and thrive – thus  making their home an ideal place for an expanded den. Occupying the Turcotte-  Lavine Family yard, the foxes drew immediate attention from the community and  this unexpected arrival has stirred up questions. Where are they headed next?  How far will they go? Can they do number bonds? While a den mother could not be reached for comment, a source close to the Fox Family says “The little critters are likely looking for new friends. That, or they are just plain restless. 12 weeks off for summer is a long time to sit in a forest.”

IMG_4546And those Foxes are an active group. Schmitz Park Foxes work hard every day fulfilling a pledge to be respectful, responsible and help each other. They are clever and wonderful creatures relying on programs, events and services Schmitz Park Elementary provides through the enormous efforts of the PTA. In turn, the PTA relies on the generosity of our families and community to fund that commitment. We’re all a family at Schmitz Park and that means you too!

Room Parents – Staff Appreciation Ideas

room_parent_1

Schmitz Park Room Parents:

As you know, we’re not allowed to collect money in the front office or classrooms. Below are ideas for different ways you can collect gifts or donations for your class’ teacher appreciation gift.

  • Amazon.com: We’ve set up a special Teacher Appreciation Wish List made specific to each teacher. The Wish List contains a link for Amazon email gift cards. Parents can select the amount of their email gift card, put in teacher email address for who the gift is going to, select date for delivery Friday, May 8th and then pay for the gift card. Your teacher will receive all of the gifts cards from each family on Friday. No collecting money and purchasing gift.
  • Cash.me: Go to this site: https://cash.me/, set-up an account and send out link to parents. They can donate money to you directly to purchase a gift for your teacher.

Below is the list of specialists assigned to the grades. Room parents for each grade have been reaching out to each other and taking one day each to do something small along with what they’re doing for their teacher. Basically each class can take a day.

  • K – Ms. Lew
  • 1st – Ms. Sealey
  • 2nd – Ms. Dunn
  • 3rd – Ms. Vaninni
  • 4th – Ms. Bronson
  • 5th – Ms. Cochran

Parents of children who use room 5 & 6, we’d like to set up a group to treat the teachers and aids that help support our children. Email lorieabennett68@gmail.com if you’d like to participate. If you don’t want to be part of the group, please send a thank you note in with your child one day next week to give to their specific supporters. Cheri Carl and I would like to replenish their toy stash, give them flowers and Starbucks cards.
