Spotlight on Genesee Hill Sponsor: Snip-Its Kids Salon & Spa

Thank You, Duc and Brian

Snip-Its Kids Salon & Spa is a Silver Fox Sponsor for the Genesee Hill PTA. Duc and Brian are dads to kindergartner, Justine. They opened Snip-Its to provide a fun and magical place for kids to get their hair cut that was also relaxing for parents. Snip-Its turns an ordinary haircut into an adventure. From the bright colors to the cast of characters, there’s no mistaking they’re all about kids.

The fun starts with an adventure club pass that kids wear around their wrist while sitting in a styling chair that’s just their size. The stylists are specially-trained to work with kids of all abilities and offer kid-friendly fun, such as crackers, lollipops, bubbles, and tablets to ensure a great haircut. And at the end of the haircut, kids turn in their adventure pass for a prize from the Magic Box. Snip-Its is a walk-in salon, so no appointment needed.

May Volunteer of the Month – Olga Hasty

Congratulations to Olga Hasty, our May Volunteer of the Month.

Our volunteer of the month is Olga Hasty. Olga attended the very first Coffee with the Principal on her daughter’s first year at Schmitz Park Elementary and signed up immediately with a volunteer role as the Art Room Coordinator. Since then, she has been involved in the classroom and various areas throughout the school. Most recently in her role as Fundraising Chair on the PTA Board, she has helped the school raise $600K over the past two years.

A little about Olga: Olga is mom to Callum (1st grade) and Iliana (3rd grade). Before becoming a full time parent, she worked at REI and the National Geographic Society. She feels very fortunate to be able to volunteer directly in the kids’ classrooms and to support the entire school through PTA events. Though born and raised in Russia, Olga has been calling West Seattle home for the last 10 years.

SPOTLIGHT ON GENESEE HILL SPONSOR: ANGELA COUGH & JEFFREY SILVA

Thank you, Angela and Jeff!

Here at Genesee Hill, you may recognize Angela and Jeff as the parents to Samantha (4th grade) and August (kindergarten). Outside of Genesee Hill, you definitely know them as the owners of Hotwire Coffee, Flying Apron, The Shack, and Havana Social Club. At Coffee with the Principal, you can thank them for the delicious coffee!

A little about Angela and Jeff:

Angela and Jeff have owned Hotwire for about two years, but were long-time regulars and personal friends of the previous owner and staff. They jumped at the opportunity to purchase their beloved coffee shop and they’ve been running the show ever since.

Jeff moved to Seattle, WA in 1992, planting roots through music, family, and various business investments (including building a small coffee/baked-goods empire). For those tuned into the local music scene, you’ll know Jeff as the drummer in local rock band, Hobosexual.

Angela was born and raised in West Seattle, attending Schmitz Park Elementary, Madison Middle School, and West Seattle High School. She was one of the first members of a little-know Seattle-based startup called Redfin.com… Six years and two kids later, Angela decided to leave Redfin to join Jeff in running their various businesses, pursue a black belt in martial art of Tang Soo Do, and (of course) shepherd their children, Samantha and August.

Other than Hotwire, the pair own and operate The Shack and Flying Apron, and are silent owners of Havana Social Club, employing over 50 people in the area! Jeff and Angela are entrenched in (and constantly seeking) new challenges and adventures with the goal of keeping Seattle truly locally owned.

Annually, this support totals nearly $100,000.

This is the 6th year for their Kids Bowl Free Program, which gives kids two free games of bowling, every day, all summer long. Click here for details.
