Volunteer of the Month – Colleen Lowe

Congratulations to our exuberant and enthusiastic volunteer of the month for March – Colleen Lowe!

Colleen is always willing to help with a smile on her face!

Colleen is one of those people who step up and fill in the gaps when others won’t. She has been super helpful with the auction and spent the majority of her time supporting the volunteer needs. She scheduled and  trained volunteers to make sure the event would be successful. She organized all the snacks and food to keep the volunteers’ energy level high. She coordinated with other local West Seattle schools (Fairmount Park, Lafayette and Alki) to trade volunteers which allows each school community to attend their own auction and still have experienced volunteer coverage.  She even helped us organize and put away all the auction stuff this week!  We so appreciate Colleen and are thrilled she is being recognized. – Christine Kraynek

Thank you Colleen for your generous support of our school. You will have have your own dedicated parking spot in the front of our school. We appreciate you!

Here’s what Colleen has to say about volunteering at school:

I volunteer as an enrichment class chaperone and parent helper, I teach genius hour knitting to those fabulous third graders and this year I was front office team lead for our auction.  I also like to volunteer at other schools auctions.  Although it’s not a volunteer position,  I’m also a Study Club instructor and I love being a part of that after school program.

I love being involved in my daughter’s school.  I started out volunteering in her classroom and branched out and it’s been so rewarding.  I don’t even have a 3rd grader but since I teach 3rd grade genius hour I know quite a few 3rd (and now 4th) graders and I adore my knitters. I realized that volunteers play a huge role at Genesee Hill and there are so many great volunteers to work with and learn from.  I think we have a great community at Genesee Hill.

Do you have a nominee for our schools volunteer of the month designation? Please send ideas to volunteers@geneseehillpta.org – Rene Bibaud

December Volunteers of the Month – Amy and Lewis Leiboh

Congratulations to this wonderful team. We are so lucky to have Amy and Lewis as members of our Genesee Hill community. Both Amy and Lewis give often to the needs of the school. Lewis has served as the treasurer on our PTA board and offers help and support at school events consistently. Amy is a room parent, serves on the cohort committee, and volunteers in the classroom. Both Amy and Lewis focus on equity in their efforts and their contributions are always extremely professional, well thought and extremely considerate of others views. Thank you Amy and Lewis for the many contributions. We are thankful for you.

Unsolicited, Lewis offered to teach an Hour of Code lesson to my students! Amy never hesitates to help out when she can. – Vincent Della Pella

Amy is a very giving person and a dream person to volunteer with. In her work she gives quietly, consistently, and thoughtfully. She is kind, steadfast, and a passionate and knowledgeable educator. I have a clear memory of her, a few weeks ago, helping me set up a booth outside GH at 7:15 in the pouring rain. It’s so Amy to volunteer for something like that and she did it without hesitating. It’s hard to the Family Equity Committee without her. – Victoria Bhegani

Amy and Lewis will have full use of the volunteer of the month parking spot all of December.  Please remember to keep this spot clear so it’s available when they need it.

May Volunteer of the Month – Kiki Elbel

Congratulations Kiki Elbel - May Volunteer of the Month

Kiki’s name comes up every time we discuss the volunteer of the month recognition and I’m so proud to finally announce Ms. Kiki as this month honoree.

Kiki is involved in so many volunteer positions that it’s hard to keep track.  She has logged HUNDREDS of hours, donating her time to the student’s and staff of GHES.
